Water and electricity in the same cabinet is a genuine hazard, so a leaking boiler should be isolated first and diagnosed second.
Do this first
Before anything else:
- Turn the boiler off at the programmer and at the fused spur.
- Close the water supply to the boiler if you can reach the isolation valve.
- Put a container under the drip and lift anything valuable clear.
- Do not remove the boiler casing, that's a Gas Safe job.
What the leak location tells us
A drip from the pipework below usually means a failed compression joint or pump seal. Water from the base of the casing often points to a corroded heat exchanger or a leaking diverter valve. A steady discharge outside is the pressure relief valve doing its job because system pressure is too high.
Getting it repaired
Some leaks are a straightforward seal or valve replacement. A leaking heat exchanger on an older appliance is usually the point where replacement makes more financial sense than repair.
