Air Conditioning Installation FAQs
- How much does air conditioning installation cost in Birmingham?
- It depends on the size of the room, the type of unit and how far the outdoor unit sits from the indoor one. A single wall-mounted unit in one room is far cheaper than a multi-split covering three bedrooms. We survey the property for free and give you one fixed price with no hidden extras.
- How long does an air conditioning installation take?
- A single wall-mounted split system in one room is normally a one-day job. Multi-split systems serving two or three rooms usually take two days. We confirm the timescale with your quote so you can plan around it.
- Can air conditioning heat my room as well as cool it?
- Yes. Modern air conditioning units are heat pumps, so they run in reverse to heat the room in winter. Many customers find them cheaper to run for a single room than firing up the whole central heating system.
- Is air conditioning noisy?
- Indoor units on modern systems are very quiet, quiet enough for bedrooms. The outdoor unit makes a low hum, so we position it sensibly away from windows and neighbouring properties wherever possible.
- Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?
- For most Birmingham homes the outdoor unit falls under permitted development, so no permission is needed. Flats, listed buildings and properties in conservation areas are the usual exceptions. We flag anything that looks like it needs approval at the survey stage rather than after the job.
- How often does air conditioning need servicing?
- Manufacturers usually recommend a service once a year to keep the system efficient and the filters clean. We focus on installation rather than servicing, so when we hand the system over we explain the manufacturer's requirements and what your warranty needs.
- Which rooms benefit most from air conditioning?
- Loft conversions, south-facing bedrooms, conservatories and home offices are the ones we are called out to most in Birmingham, because they overheat first. If you are only cooling one or two problem rooms, a split system is usually the sensible option.
"Had air conditioning fitted in our loft conversion after two summers of not being able to sleep up there. Neat pipework, barely audible indoors, and it heats the room in winter too. Wish we'd done it sooner."
