F1 is the most common fault code we see on Ideal boilers in Birmingham homes, and it's usually a symptom rather than a fault in its own right.
What F1 means
On the Ideal Logic, Logic+, Vogue and Independent ranges, F1 indicates the boiler has detected low system pressure and shut down. It is a protective lockout, not damage.
What to check first
Work through these in order:
- Read the pressure gauge. Below 0.7 bar confirms the diagnosis.
- Re-pressurise to around 1.2 bar using the filling loop, then press reset.
- Watch the gauge for a week. If it drops again, you have a leak or a failed expansion vessel.
When F1 keeps coming back
A repeat F1 after re-pressurising is a genuine fault: a leaking joint, a spent expansion vessel, or a faulty pressure sensor. Resetting repeatedly won't fix it and can leave you without heating or hot water at the worst moment.
