We repair far more boilers than we replace, but there is a point where continued repairs stop making financial sense.
The clearest indicators
Consider replacement if several of these apply:
- The appliance is over 12–15 years old.
- You've paid for two or more repairs in the last couple of years.
- Parts are becoming obsolete or hard to source.
- Heating bills are climbing with no change in usage.
- The boiler is non-condensing, so a large amount of heat goes out of the flue.
- Radiators take much longer to warm than they used to.
Safety signs that mean act now
A yellow or orange flame instead of crisp blue, black sooty marks around the casing, or a carbon monoxide alarm sounding all mean the boiler should be turned off and inspected by a Gas Safe registered engineer immediately.
What a replacement involves
A straight swap in an existing location is typically a one-day job. Moving the boiler, changing fuel type or converting from a conventional system to a combi takes longer. We quote a fixed price before starting and register the appliance for its manufacturer warranty on completion.
